There was huge excitement today as Melissa beat the entire Super Mario Brothers video game, and rescued the princess! And it only took her a couple of weeks! Not that she did anything else over Christmas break. Well at least it was quick so hopefully she won't have carpel tunnel syndrome from playing too much, like someone else we know.
But seriously, it was a big year for Melissa since she graduated from high school. In fact it was a big event for all of us since life as we had known it for the last several years came to a screeching halt. No more high school sports to run around to! Okay, we might miss it a little, but life goes on. Melissa was accepted to several colleges, but we strongly encouraged her to go to BYU Idaho as she wanted to major in Interior Design, and it isn't offered everywhere. But they put her on the Winter/Spring track and she didn't want to wait. So she made a last minute decision to go to Provo and attend BYU's extension campus. Then when it came time to register for Idaho, she didn't want to start all over in a new place. So she stayed in Provo, but still has to decide on a major. Everyone pretty much scared her from going to Idaho by telling her she was too much of a California girl to go to Idaho, and that she couldn't handle the weather. She texts me the temperature every time it goes below 32 degrees to complain. So when it hit -12 in Rexburg, she decided for sure.
Although she gets pretty homesick, she enjoys college and did pretty good her first semester. She did best in public speaking...pretty good for a freshman. Her only grade we had a complaint about was religion class. Not as easy as she thought it would be. She has gravitated to the other Orange County students and re-connected with kids we knew from where we used to live, so that has been kind of fun.
